This is the second lesson. It will be a continuation of the first lesson. If you have not read Lesson 1, please do so before continuing. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Professor Emile Noir organized his desk by floating various papers in the air. It all looked like chaos, but Emile was sure of where they would end up. He just hoped no one would get any paper cuts from them flying all over the room. He then brushed off his robes, turning towards the front. No one had arrived yet and it was almost the warning bell. Usually some of his students arrived early. Probably a rough night being the first day and all, Emile thought with a smile.
That made him remember of his days at school...But that was a whole different subject. He then started to write the warm up question on the board. Nothing like a good refresher in the morning.
Warm-Up: What did people use to observe the stars before the invention of telescopes?

Kyrah Blake stepped into the classroom, welcomed with a flying piece of paper that she had to duck from. When she stood up straight, her eyes were wide. "Uhm...I'm sorry I wasn't here yesterday, family issues at home," she muttered to her professor. She held her head low for a moment, fixing her messenger bag on her shoulder. It had all her drawings in it.
She smiled lightly up to her professor, pulling down the robes on her arms, covering the scars. She sat in the middle, waiting for whoever else was in the class. She was curious as to who was there. She took out her drawing pad, and flipped through her already drawn faces, and landscapes.
Her eyes drifted to the board behind Professor Noir, before another piece of flying paper came at her. That really needed to chill. She read over the question to herself. Did she really know the answer to that?
'Well, that would have been hard to do, since they didn't have the technology the muggles had today. So, possibly their eyes,' she thought. That would be the rhetorical answer, right? But, of course, she would never answer that. She rarely spoke out in her classes.

Artemis stepped into the classroom, rubbing her eyes like a child. Last night wasn't one of the greatest times of her life, she had woke up at four in the morning to throw up and she hadn't stop until eight. So basically she was late for her first class.
She ducked quickly as a flying paper swooped down. What the... She shook her head and walked further inside. Lucky for her, there was only one other student in the room. She made her way towards her and asked kindly,
"Do you mind if I sit here?" Artemis tried to stifle a yawn as she waited patiently for her reply.

Kyrah ducked again as another flying paper zoomed toward her. She sighed, looking at her paper after puzzling about the question on the board. She didn't want to be bothered with that right now. She began to draw the room, and the flying pieces of paper as another student came in.
"Oh, no, not at all," Ky said, with a soft smile to the girl. She looked about her age. Maybe she could make friends here, as her father had so kindly told her she wouldn't. Stupid father.
She shook the awful thoughts from her mind, comtinuing to look at the girl. Her crystal eyes framed by auburn bangs. "I'm Kyrah," she said, holding out her hand.

Artemis smiled gratefully and sank into the only available seat next to the redhead. Taking out her notebook and favorite green pen(there was no way she was going to write with a quill.) she turned to the girl named Kyrah.
"Hi,I'm Artemis." She said, taking the other girl's offered hand. "Do you have a scrunchy? My hair is a total mess and i didn't have enough time to fix it." Artemis shook her head, her brown curls swaying along.
She looked up towards the board, moving her head to the right to let a flying paper through. What did people use to observe the stars before the invention of telescopes? easy, they had to use their eyes, she thought before jutting down the answer in her notebook.

Professor Emile Noir smiled as a few of his students came in. Sure enough, they didn't look as chipper as yesterday. He didn't expect them to. And neither was he, with his flying papers. It was getting a nuisance now, but it was almost done. Just a few more minutes of dodging. Emile thought of it as a physical warm-up for the morning. That's just what they needed.
He then looked, seeing that the girls were jotting the warm-up in their notebooks. It was happy to see that they were ready to learn so early. Then, the papers had sorted themselves into neat stacks that were in various piles all over the room. Running his hand through his hair, Emile sighed.
"Sorry for the mess,"Emile greeted with a sheepish smile. He was never good at organizing. He then continued with a slight smile, "Well I see that you two have already got the warm up. Why don't we wait awhile for some others to come in shall we?"
Emile then went back to his organizing, shifting piles here and there. But it never did any good.Oh well, he thought.

Miranda Fear walked in the room only to be greeted by various flying papers. She stopped a moment to take it all in. It wasn't that she didn't think it was normal, because it was in her house. Especially in her room when she was re-organizing everything. But then the sorting stopped, which allowed Miranda to plop down in a desk next to two Hufflepuff girls. Surely, more people would come in.
Then she noticed the warm-up question. It was easy. Eyes, of course, Miranda thought easily. She always looked at the stars without a telescope. It seemed prettier that way too. But it was definately the eyes. She then wrote it down on a piece of parchment with color-changing ink, a present she recieved from her older brother.

The first thing that met Ami's eyes as she walked through the door were papers flying all over the place. By the time she made it to her seat, though, they had all come to rest in organized piles. She smiled, admiring the way magic could be used for the simplest of things. Sorting those papers would've taken Ami close to an hour, but Professor Noir had it finished in only a minute or so.
After she sat down, somewhere in the middle of the room, she took out her parchment, quill, and ink to copy down the warm up question. What did people use to observe the stars before the invention of the telescope?, she wrote before actually thinking about the question. The obvious answer would be their eyes, because there was no technology, but Ami had a feeling there was more to it. However, it wasn't uncommon for her to second guess herself, so underneath the question, she scribbled down two words: their eyes.

Emile smiled as two other girls entered the room. They too had done the warm-up. He then brushed himself off, adjusting his grey scarf around his neck. He then walked in front of the classroom and faced them.
"Now, lets see...," Emile said, his silver gaze sweeping the class. He continued with a smile, "Ms. Blake, why don't you answer the question aloud since you were the first one here."

Kyrah glanced up from where her eyes were when the teacher called on her. Her pencil was down on her drawing pad, and she noticed all the papers had stopped flying. She glanced down at her pad to see if she had enough flying pieces of paper, and luckily she did. She sighed a bit, glancing at Artemis.
"I believe I do, let me get it," she said gently, a smile on her features. She bent down, into her bag, pulling out a small scrunchie for her. She hoped the pause gave Professor Noir the idea she was thinking, or something. She handed over her scrunchie, looking at the fellow Hufflepuff. "And, your hair doesn't look bad at all," she said, with a genuine smile.
She looked back to the professor for a moment. "Well, if you think about this logically, the answer to that would be a person's eyes, since they didn't exactly have telescopes or whatnot back then. If we're going deeper than that," she said, thinking for a moment. "Well, they would probaby use, well, nothing else really fits that." She knew her answer could be considered a 'smart ass reply' but she didn't mind, really. Probably everyone in this room thought the exact same thought she just said.

Emile patiently waited for the girl to answer. Once she did, he was satisfied that they used their common knowlegde for this. It was a simple warm up question after all.
"Good. Very good. And I'm sure the rest of you guessed the same, knowing that the cultures did not have advanced technology," Emile said as he turned to his class after he shifted around some other papers. "Now, many of the cultures drew maps on where the stars and planets were positioned. They also thought that everything revolved around the Earth. Now can anyone tell me the possible logic that they had behind that reason? Ms. Zeal perhaps."

Circe seemed to go on unnoticed. She had done the warm up and got it correct. It was easy unlike some of the other classes warm ups. The next question that he asked was a simple question as well. He noticed that he had asked her friend Artemis. Circe knew that she would probably get this one right. She was a bright girl after all.

Artemis smiled at Kyrah gratefully and tied her hair in a high pony tail as she thought about the question.
"Well there are two reasons.." She said slowly, "one- would be that the sun, stars, planets seem to revolve around our Earth every day. Second- could be that the earth never seems to move, always at rest, which also links with my first reason."
She smiled up at the professor.

(Heads up. I'll be gone for some time. Will be on when I can)
Emile smiled at Artemis Zeal. He knew that she was a smart girl, he could always get a good detailled answer from her. Looking around the room, he saw some people falling asleep. This made him frown.
"Very good, Ms. Zeal," Emile said smiling at her. "Now can someone give me examples of modern day technology that has helped the world understand the universe more? Ms. Bence?"

Ami took a deep breath as she thought about how to answer. "Well, obviously the telescope. It was probably the most important because it let us look more closely at the universe when before we could only see the big picture." she said, biting her lip. She looked up at Professor Noir apologetically because she couldn't think of anything else.
