Professor Averis walked into her outdoor classroom where her students were waiting. There were fallen trees for seats but it didn’t seem like anyone had caught onto that yet. With a smile Professor Averis bounced into her classroom. She could hardly wait herself to start teaching.
“Take your seats on the fallen tree’s class.” Professor Averis said happily. She flicked her wand towards the front of the classroom and a chalk board appeared. “I’m Professor Averis. Welcome to Care of Magical Creatures.” The chalk, that was already enchanted to write whatever Professor Averis said wrote, Professor Averis. Welcome to Care of Magical Creatures.
“Let’s get started shall we.” She said. “Now let’s start with Boomslang. Boomslang is a type of snake that lives in Africa. I wouldn’t suggest threatening one of them because their bite is much worse than their bark. Well not exactly their bite, but their venom. Boomslang’s skin is green or brown depending on it’s gender. Female’s have brown skin, while males have green skin. They use their skin for camouflage. Their skin is also used in potions. That potion is known as Polyjuice Potion.”
Professor Averis let her students get done writing their notes over Boomslang. She smiled at them as they finished up. “Now who can tell what the name Boomslang comes from? This is for 6 points because it‘s a harder question.” This was a tougher question but she wanted to see who could answer it. “Now don’t bother raising your hand just the first person to stand up answers. I only like it if my students raise their hand if they have a question.” She didn’t know why but Professor Averis never liked it when students raised their hands to be picked on, maybe she just didn’t want to end up seeming like she favored a student over the others.

Circe Sommers smiled as she took notes. She already liked this class a lot and couldn’t wait to learn more. She had already read about Boomslang before in one of her Dad’s books. Circe stood up instantly. The soil seemed a little bit squishy under her feet which caused her to wobble a little. She got her balance back and said, “Boom in means tree and slang means snake in Dutch. So therefore it means Tree snake.” Circe sat back down on the log. She knew she was right.

James Wayland who sat next to Circe knew she was right to. For his whole family might have been in Gryffindor, but they loved to learn about serpents. Especially Dragons.

Professor Averis's smile grew bigger. The girl answered the question almost how she would have worded it. "Very good Ms. Sommers. Go on and take 6 points for Slytherin. Remember you can only answer 3 questions per lesson class."
"Boomslang does mean Tree snake in Dutch. You better add that into your notes class." She smiled as she saw her students writing away. "Now who can tell me another name for Boomslang? This will be 3 points since it's listed in your text books and a fairly easy question. Don't be shy go ahead and scream the answer if you want to." She was looking around to see which student would take up the challange.

Without glancing at his text book James rose his hand into the air. For he knew this question by heart.

Professor Averis noticed a student raise his hand. She looked over at him and asked sweetly,"Yes Mr. Wayland do you have a question? If it's the answer to my question then all you need to do is stand up and say it. After all I'm pretty sure I did mention that all you had to do is stand up and answer."

James just smiled charmingly and stood and said "The scientific name is Dispholidus typus." Sitting back down on the log and chuckled under his breath for he hadn't actually been listening when she had said that, but thankfully he wasn't easy to embarress.

Professor Averis smiled and said, "Correct. Take your house points and lets continue onto the next part."
"Now since we seem to have a snake theme going right now let's learn about the King of Serpents." She smiled at the students. In her past years many students enjoyed this creature the most. She had no idea why they liked it but they found it 'cool' or 'amazing'."For 2 points can anyone tell me the real name of the King of Serpents?"

Elliott sat through class with a very dull expression on his face. He didn't like to much answering questions because he liked more to interact. Elliott knew this question and so he lifted his hand in the air waiting to be called on. He looked around and also Circe and James taking this class.

Professor Averis sighed. She saw yet another hand in the air. Professor Averis wondered if any of the students had listened to her directions about answering questions. Nothing bugged her more than students that don't follow directions. She hates having to repeat herself over and over again. Once was enough.
"Mr. Dames are you raising your hand because you have a question?" Professor Averis asked him politely.

Circe snickerd a little under her breath. It seemed like he was getting in trouble for not following her dircetions. Really she already told James again and now Elliott. Was she the only one who listened to the teacher anymore. Circe could tell that really bugged the teacher.

"Oh yeah, I know the answer but I just realized that we could just stand," Elliott said as his face turned pink. Elliott stood up. "The king of Serpents is the Basilisk," Elliott said as he sat down quickly as he looked at his table.

"Good job. 2 points for Hufflepuff. Just remember to pay attention next time." Professor Averis sighed.
"Now class I expect you to follow directions. I know my class is a little... different then your others that you are taking but I'm not super stict. I will say this though. The next person who doesn't listen to my direction or follow them will have house points taken away."
Now that she was done with her little rant she smiled at her class. "Now let's continue. The Basilisk actually lived in the chamber of secrets here at hogwarts. The chamber of secrets was opened twice and the Basilisk killed one person while petrifying the rest. The Basilisk is only know to attack muggleborns. Does anyone know how the Basilisk knows if who they are attacking is a muggleborn or not? This is for 5 points." She waited for a student to speak up. This was a tougher one and she wouldn't be suprised it no one got it.

Circe stood up quickly. "It could smell their blood. One sniff and they can tell what blood you are." She sat back down. Snakes were her favorite kinds of creatures she knows almost everything about them.

Professor Averis smiled ear to ear. "Very good Ms. Sommers. Slytherin get's 5 points."
"Now breeding Basilisks are illegal. Can anyone tell me why this law has hardly ever been broken even by the darkest of wizards for 3 points?"
