Professor Schaefer decided not to hold it against Mr. Ruarc for not paying that close of attention. This was, after all, the first class for the first years. They were bound to be at least slightly nervous.
"Very good, Mr. Ruarc! Three points for Gryffindor since it was a bit of an easier question. Now, lets go ahead and get to the actual lesson."
She turned back to the blackboard and flicked her wand, causing the following to appear underneath everything else:
The 10th Century
*The Annual Swedish broom race begins. It is run in Sweden from Kopparberg to Arjeplog, a distance of about 300 miles. The race is so popular it is made an annual tradition - one which still continues today, over 1000 years later.
*962 AD: Witches and wizards were using primitive broomsticks for transportation, but these broomsticks were far from perfect; this German illuminated manuscript shows wizards dismounting early flying broomsticks in pain.
*Before 993 AD: Growing distrust on the part of Muggles for wizards and witches compels the four greatest witches and wizards of the age - Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin - to found Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Slytherin builds the _______ __ _______ after his idea that only pure-blood wizards should be allowed into Hogwarts was dismissed. The Wizarding World begins to withdraw and hide itself from the Muggle World.
"Now everyone take a moment to read through these facts about the tenth century. Once you're done, go ahead and raise your hand if you wish to answer to the question on the board."

Lasair, knowing the answer and all of the facts about the old legend, decided to let someone else take the question. It would be, after all, greedy to answer every question. Though he would be gaining more points for Gyffindor.
It'd be more proper for a Slytherin to answer, Lasair thought, as he went through the history of the legend in his mind.

Carl hated speaking up in class, and his professors knew why. He was always afraid they would call him "Mr. Lestrange." Which at that point, he would just walk out of the class.
But he figured he's go ahead and give it a shot, pull Slytherin ahead with points.
Without even raising his hand, Carl simply stood up and pointed his wand at the board. He easily flicked his wrist and the words "Chamber of Secrets" were written in the blank in his best cursive scroll.
He sat down and twirled his wand. He knew he had the right answer. He had heard his...dad...talking about it a couple of years back.

Professor Schaefer was slightly surprised when Carl stood up. She had heard of the boy.
"Right answer, Carl! Three points for Slytherin. Now, anyone has the chance to answer a question, even if you already have. But you'll only get house points once during each class. So lets continue."
She turned to the board once more and more writing appeared.
The 11th Century
Early 1000s: Growing friction between Godric Gryffindor and Salazar Slytherin erupts into violence, with the result that Slytherin leaves Hogwarts after creating the Chamber of Secrets.
Professor Schaefer turned back to the class.
"So, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff all got along. It was Slytherin that was the exception. He wanted all of their students to be purebloods. The rest, however, were more fair to who they allowed in their school. Thus, Slytherin created the Chamber of Secrets and then left Hogwarts."
More writing appeared on the board.
Early 1000s: Gertie Keddle, living near Queerditch Marsh, writes about some local witches and wizards playing a new game on broomsticks; over the next few centuries this game evolves into Quidditch.
"Now, we'll learn quite a bit about the History of Quidditch. But this is the first siting of the game as we know it. Now, I will give five house points to whoever can answer the following question, even if you've already answered one. You are allowed to get out your books and look for the answer."
Fulbert the Fearful, born ____, was killed when a defensive charm he casts backfired, despite never leaving his house, in ____.
"Whoever can put in both of the correct years will be rewarded five house points. You do not have to raise your hand. Just stand and answer."

Lasair stood up. Aiming his wand once more, this time more confident. He flicked his wand. The dates,1014/1097, appeared in the blanks.

"Excellent, Mr. Ruarc! Five points for Gryffindor! Moving on..."
The 12th Century
1105: The famous painting, GUnther der Gewaltige is der Gewinner, is drawn, depicting a game of Stichstock.
1107: Guthrie Lochrin of Scotland writes of the discomfort of riding broomsticks.
1112: Wilfred Elphick is born.
1163: The oldest Quidditch team, __________ ______, is formed.
1199: Wilfred Elphick is gored to death by an Erumpet.
"So who can tell us who the oldest Quidditch team is? Just stand and answer, please."

Elliott stood up as he didn't pay much attention to the other questions. He was always in to Quidditch and was excited for it to start at Hogwarts. Elliott held his wand in his hand tightly as he wrote Puddlemere United on the board then smiled and sat down. "I think thats right," Elliott whispered to himself but turned out that the whole class heard because it was silent. Elliott looked at his table embarrassed.

"Very good, Mr. Dames. Go ahead and take a couple of points for Hufflepuff. We just have a couple of more things to cover before I let you all take notes and then I assign homework."
The 13th Century
1202: Bridget Wenlock, a famous Arithmancer, is born.
1203: The Holyhead Harpies are formed. The Quidditch team would go on to keep an 800+ year tradition of hiring only witches.
1227: Ignatia Wildsmith, inventor of Floo powder, is born.
1269: Barberus Bragge becomes Chief of the Wizards' Council.
1269: At a Quidditch match, Chief Barberus Bragge of the Wizards' Council releases a Golden Snidget and offers 150 Galleons to whichever player catches it first; this eventually proves so popular that a new position is added to Quidditch teams, the "Hunter," whose sole task is to catch a Golden Snidget released onto the pitch during the game.
1285: Famous Arithmancy, Bridget Wenlock, dies.
1289: International Warlock Convention
1291: The Kenmare Kestrels Quidditch team is founded.
1292: The Pride of Portree Quidditch team is founded.
1294: The Triwizard Tournament is established. The tradition begins with three European Wizarding schools. It will continue off and on for many centuries.
1296: A Manticore savages someone but is let off because no one dares go near it.
"Now, I know this is a lot, but go ahead and read through it before we continue."
Professor Schaefer waited patiently as she watched her student. When she figured that they were done reading it all, she decided to go on.
"Now, I'm sure most of you are wondering what a 'Golden Snidget' is. A snidget is a small, spherical bird which can fly with amazing agility, changing speed and direction almost instantaneously. It has a rating of XXXX because of the severe penalty attached to capturing or owning one. Its golden feathers and red, jewel-like eyes are so prized that at one time the snidget was hunted almost to extinction. The fact that a snidget became such an integral part of the game of Quidditch (and usually died when it was caught) didn't help matters either. The snidget became a protected species; there are now severe penalties for harming or even capturing one. Snidget reserves have been set up worldwide, and a magical device, the Golden Snitch, has replaced the live bird in Quidditch, which I'm sure you've all heard of."
"Now, A Manticore is a sentient creature, capable of intelligent speech but not classified as a being due to its violent tendencies, a manticore has a human-like head, a lion's body, and the tail of a scorpion. They originated in Greece. Although this is never stated, it seems possible that like the acromantula, manticores may have originated as a wizard-bred species specifically created to guard treasures, strongholds, and the like, and thus serving as an example of why the Ban on Experimental Breeding is so important."
"So! Now, when you go to your first Care of Magical Creatures lesson, you can show your professor that you already know a little bit about magical creatures! Now lets try to get some verbal answers around here. Can anyone tell me the three wizarding schools that participate in the Triwizard Tournament? I want a show of hands this time."

Elliott read what Professor Schaefer had written on the board and wondered how she mastered to write all of that in seconds without even thinking about it. Elliott just concluded that she probably practiced everyday. Elliott took a few notes with his quill on his parchment and then looked up when he had finished reading and taking notes. Elliott saw that he was one of the first to be finished. He looked at Professor Schaefer as she started to talk about the Golden Snidget which Elliott knew all about because his father had brought him a book called "Quidditch Through the Ages" because he knew that Elliott was into Quidditch. When Professor Schaefer asked the question about the Triwizard Tournament Elliott quickly shot his hand in the air because his father had talked all about it because his mother and his father had met in the Yule Ball.

Circe read through everything. She took a few notes on things that she found important and tried to let it sink in. Some stuff was harder for her to understand or memorize than others. Thankfully this was. Easier but she knew she would have to go over it again. Circe might seem really smart but she had to read books over and over just so she could remember or understand.
When Circe heard the question about the triwizard tournement her hand shot in the air. She noticed that someone else already had their hand up. Circe sunk back in her seat just a little. She still kept her hand up though. After all she could pick on anyone.

Lasair finished copying what had been written on the board to his notes. He loved hearing the history of Quidditch. He couldn't wait for the season to start. He listen as Professor Schaefer explained about the Snidget, and Manticore.
He copied some facts over the Snidget down, then he listen as the professor got onto the topic of the Triwizard Tournament. When she asked what school competed, Lasair noticed two student's hands were already up. Lasair put his own hand into the air.
Three schools, three students to answer, he reasoned in his mind.

Professor Schaefer was bouncing on her heels again. She was definitely impressed by how many students raised their hand. She wasn't sure what they knew of the Triwizard Tournament. After all, she hadn't known about it until they had it when she was in her fifth year.
"Miss Sommers, go ahead and tell us one of the schools that participate."

Circe smiled as she put down her hand. She was a little suprised that she was picked to answer first but she ignored that. Circe knew all three school but she was only to state one. "Beauxbatons Academy of Magic." Circe answered. She was onehundrad percent sure it was the right answer.

Elliott smiled. "Sure can, one of them is Durmstrang Institute," Elliott spoke as clearly as possibly as his father mentioned every detail of the Yule Ball back when my mother found my father it was held at Durmstrang. Elliott smiled as he knew it was right.
