Professor Schaefer walked into the classroom from her office. There was no desk, just a large blackboard on the wall. She pulled out her wand and flicked it towards the board. The following appeared:
History of Magic Professor Schaefer
Lesson 1 - 10th - 14th Centuries
Professor Schaefer turned back towards the class with a warm, welcoming smile on her face.
"Hello, class! Welcome to your first class of History of Magic! Today, we will be discussing the tenth through the fourteenth centuries worth of the history of magic. I know you younger students prefer to be in a class where you get to actually perform magic. Well, I'll tell you what. Wands out!"
She waited until the students had their wands out, bouncing on her heels in anticipation.
"Right! Now, this is how we're going to do this class. I am going to put a question or a statement with a blank up on the board. The first student who raises their hand will get to write the answer on the board using magic. Let me show you how it's done. It's very simple."
Professor Schaefer turned her back to the class and raised her wand towards the board.
"You hold your wand like so and smoothly and quickly flick your wrist ninety degrees to the left. Before you flick your wand, you concentrate very deeply on whatever you want to write on the board. Watch me."
She paused for just a moment before flicking her wand. Underneath what she had previously put up on the board, the following appeared:
Before 1000 BC, magic is integrated into society and wizards are held in esteem. _________ wizards put curses on tombs; nowadays curse-breakers for _________ try to regain the treasure locked in those tombs. One pyramid has mutant skeletons of Muggles who'd broken in and grown extra heads.
Professor Schaefer turned back to the class, smiling and bouncing on her heels once more.
"We'll start with a couple of warm up questions then go to the actual lesson. Before class is over, we'll stop with the lesson ten minutes early so you all can take notes over what we did in class. So who can answer this one?"

Circe Sommers looked around the class room. No one seemed to want to answer the question. She wasn't sure if it was because they didn't know the answer or that they didn't want to look like a fool trying to use magic to write the answer. Circe looked over the question again. She already knew the second part to the question. That was the easy part. The first part, however was a little tricky. Then it just clicked.
Circe's hand shot up in the air. Normally she wasn't the type to answer questions but she was sure she knew the answer. She waited to be called on to answer the question. She didn't even think about having to use magic to write it in. She didn't care right now. There was no backing out now. Circe didn't look at the other sutdents but she thought they were probably all looking at her. Great. What did she get herself into now?

Elliott didn't really understand why their Professor had started the term so hard. He hadn't even studied one bit or read a tiny bit about the History of the World. All he knew was the facts his Father had told him. Elliott was sitting in the second row of desks with his bag on his lap and a quill, parchment and ink on the table. He was twirling his wand in his hand because he was annoyed it was a hard question but he was still thinking.
He only knew the first gap of the question well at least he thought he knew. But he wasn't very sure about it. The last gap didn't seem to make sense to him, it was a very complex sentence. He kept on twirling his wand. Then it struck him. Elliott raised his hand into the air but was beaten by a girl who looked like she was from Slytherin. Elliott lowered his hand. He still had a chance if she was wrong. Elliott sighed.

Lasair thought about the question for a minute. He knew the first blank right off the bat, but the second question... He looked around the room. Very few people looked as if they were going to answer. He saw a Slytherin's hand shoot into the air.
Come on think!, he thought to himself.
He remembered reading something about curse-brakers. If only he could remember what it was. Then he remembered. It was so obvious. How had he not know all along! He got ready to raise his hand.
"Maybe she'll get it wrong." he said quietly to himself.

Ami read the question 3 times, and she still couldn't figure out the first blank. She'd already read A History of Magic, and she knew that she had read the answer. The problem was she couldn't remember it. As she saw a girl raise her hand, Ami felt stupid. Why couldn't she think of the answer?
Then she saw Elliott's hand go in the air, only for a moment, before he lowered it again. Another boy was tensed to raise his hand as well. Ami couldn't help but feel a little disappointed in herself. Apparently the question wasn't as hard as she thought it was, but she still couldn't figure out the first blank. As she read it a fourth time, it came to her. Well, two answers came to her. She wasn't sure which one it was, so she kept her hand glued to the desk.

Professor Schaefer looked around the classroom, smiling and bouncing on her heels. She watched the faces of her students. Maybe she shouldn't have picked this question right off the bat. She shouldn't have assumed that her first year students would have read any of their assigned book, A History of Magic. She knew they had much better stuff to do with being accepted to Hogwarts. She wouldn't have even opened her book. But the question did come from the first chapter.
She saw a girl raise her hand, and her smile came back. She motioned to the girl.
"Yes, Miss Sommers. Go ahead and give it a try. If you can't get it up on the board, don't worry. It's your first try. And if you don't get the right answer, don't worry about that either. Like I said, this is just a warm up question, mainly used to get you all familiar with a little bit of magic."
"Now just go ahead and answer the first part, and we'll leave the second part for someone else."

Circe stood up with her wand in hand. She stared at the bored for a second before raising her wand. She was very afraid that her answer might be wrong. Even though she was afraid she masked it and acted like she knew what she was doing. Circe thought about what wand movement she had to use for a split second.
She pointed her wand at the first blank on the board. Circe took in a deep breath and thought about what word she wanted to appear there as she closed her eyes. When she was ready she flicked her wrist 90 degrees to the left quickly and smoothly. She didn't want to open her eyes. She was afraid that nothing would be there. Circe peeked a little and then opened her eyes all the way. She let out a sigh when she saw the word Egyptian. The word was written at a slight angle but it was still there. Circe sat back down quickly.

Professor Schaefer watched Miss Sommers as she concentrated on her answer. Once she flicked her wand, Professor Schaefer turned to the board. She put on a big smile as she turned back to the class.
"Excellent job! Five points for Slytherin! Most muggles don't believe that there are really curses on Egyptian tombs, but there sure are! Some of the earliest wizards are responsible. Now, who can answer the second part to this question? Let's give someone else a chance. The first one to stand up can go ahead and answer it."

Elliott sighed as Slytherin got the points. He looked at Professor Scheafer as she asked for another child to stand up. Elliott stood up start away and smiled. He hand his wand in his fist as he quickly flicked it to a ninety degree angle then closed his eyes and concentrated on the world.
Elliott didn't dare to peek as it might of embarrassed himself. He opened his eyes the world "Gringotts" on the board in his neatest handwriting. Elliott grinned. He had mastered a spell and he didn't really care now if it was wrong. He sat back down waiting for Professor Scaefer.

Professor Schaefer watched as the boy stood up and flicked his wand. She turned to the board once again and bounced on her heels a couple of times as she turned to the class.
"Spectacular, Mr. Dames! Take five points for Hufflepuff! Let's do one more warm up question."
She turned to the board and flicked her wand. The following question appeared:
What year did Ollivanders open for business, selling fine wands? ______
"Once again, lets give another student a chance to answer. This one should be a little easier, as I suspect all of you got your wands from Ollivanders before the start of term. The first student who stands can answer the question."

Circe tapped her toes softly so they didn't make a sound. She really wanted to answer the question baddly. The question was so simple since she did tons of research before she came to Hogwarts. She wanted to know all about the wizarding world so she looked through tons of her dads old school books as well as her own.
Circe was happy that she got the question right and earned points for Slytherin. She wasn't so happy about the fact Hufflepuff got points as well but she couldn't do anything about it. Circe wanted to earn as many points for her house as she could. She would jump at almost any chance to answer a question now.

Lasair immediatly raised his hand. He had known Mr. Ollivanders for a long time. He and Lasair's uncle had been friends as long as Lasair could remember.
Lasair waited to be called on.

Elliott knew that he was proud of himself but he really wanted to answer the next question it was simple and didn't make you think at all. Elliott saw Lasair another first grader raise his hand. Elliott gently nudged his shoulder and whispered. "Just stand up, and turn your wrist 90 degrees with your wand and write the answer on the board."

"Oh, ya." said Lasair. He should be paying more attention to what Professor Schaefer was telling them.
He got up, and aimed his wand at the blackboard. He concentrated hard and swiftly moved his wand 90 degrees. He looked up at the board, alittle nerves. But the feeling past as he saw the date: 382 B.C. appear neatly on the line.
